Purpose: To compare outcomes and complications of the Ahmed FP7 Glaucoma Valve and the Baerveldt Glaucoma Implant (BGI) 101-350 for the treatment of refractory glaucoma.
Study type: Randomized controlled trial
Condition: Uncontrolled glaucoma
Participants: ≥18yo uncontrolled glaucoma refractory to maximal medical therapy, may have previously failed trabeculectomy

Intervention:
Group 1: Ahmed FP7 Glaucoma Valve
Group 2: Baerveldt Glaucoma Implant (BGI) 101-350
The cumulative probability of failure was higher in the Ahmed group (51%) than in the Baerveldt group (34%)
Mean number of glaucoma medications was greater in the Ahmed group (1.8; 42% reduction) than in the Baerveldt group (1.1; 65% reduction).
The Baerveldt group had a higher rate of hypotony-related vision-threatening complications (0% Ahmed, 6% Baerveldt).
