Main finding: Small-incision lenticule extraction (SMILE) achieved similar efficacy, predictability and safety outcomes with LASIK in the treatment of myopia and myopic astigmatism.
Purpose: To compare femtosecond LASIK vs SMILE for the treatment of myopia and myopic astigmatism.
Study type: Randomized controlled Trial
Condition: Myopia
Participants: ≥21 years, spherical equivalent > -3.0D OU, cylinder ≤-2.0D OU with anisometropia <1.0D, BCVA ≥6/12
n=70
Intervention:
Group 1: SMILE in one eye
Group 2: LASIK in fellow eye
At 12 months, SMILE was similar to LASIK in terms of efficacy, predictability and safety.
