Main finding: Initial ranibizumab therapy for centre-involving DME has likely better long-term vision improvement than laser or IVTA+ laser followed by deferred ranibizumab.

 

  • Purpose: To compare long-term vision and anatomic effects of intravitreal ranibizumab with prompt or deferred laser vs laser or triamcinolone + laser with very deferred ranibizumab in diabetic macular edema

Participants: DME involving central macula, VA 20/32-20/320 (6/9.5-6/96)

Groups:

 

  • Group 1: Prompt laser
  • Group 2: Ranibizumab + prompt laser
  • Group 3: Ranibizumab + deferred laser
  • Group 4: Triamcinolone + laser/very deferred ranibizumab
