Main finding: Patients treated with Lotepredniol etabonate showed significantly more improvement in Ocular Surface Disease Index than those who received artificial tears, and significantly reduced stinging from topical cyclosporine.
Purpose: To evaluate the effect of loteprednol etabonate vs artificial tears before initiation of cyclosporine A in mild-moderate Dry Eye Disease
Group 1: Loteprednol etabonate QID for 2 weeks
Group 2: Artificial tears QID for 2 weeks
After 2 weeks, dose decreased to bd and topical cyclosporine added bd for an additional 6 weeks.
Both groups showed significantly improved Ocular surface disease index scores at 2, 4, and 8 weeks, with significantly more improvement in loteprednol vs artificial tears.
Loteprednol etabonate pretreatment also significantly reduced topical cyclosporine stinging
